many of the asoiaf readers have been hinting at something huge coming and im completely TERRIFIED. am I going to need tissues or dig a hole in the ground like how serious is this?

Okay so not mentioning specifics, but still, potential spoiler alert?

Alright so to answer your question as to whether it’s ‘serious’: I would say that it’s about the level of “go buy every box of tissues from your local supermarket and then drop by a hospital on the way home to pick up a defibrillator because YOU’LL BE NEEDING IT” kind of serious lol.

Honestly, start saying your goodbyes to all of the characters now, because no matter which ones you love or hate, soon several of them will be gone haha

So yeah, there’s the gist of it: I can guarantee lots of emotions and lots of death looming in the very near future haha

Castle is hasty. He’s rash and he gets desperate very easily and he’s the sort of person who always knows what he wants but is rarely sure of exactly how to get it, and that has never been more true than it is of him and Kate. That’s why he proposed, because he knows he wants Kate for always and he knows that at the end of the day, he has to accept who she is and still stand by her whatever she chooses, and in his rash, romantic mind, he decides that a proposal is the best way to achieve that. That’s who he is.

To be honest, if any proposal from him had been this big, planned out, perfect event in which Kate said yes and they skipped off happily ever after, I would’ve been disappointed.

I don’t expect Kate to say yes straight away, if at all. In fact, I don’t want her to do that. I think this proposal is the set up for them to actually talk about their issues - so many people are screaming about how marriage won’t solve the issues they have - THAT IS THE POINT.

I think the point of the proposal is to push them both into talking properly, and then once they’ve done that, and sorted through things, then Kate will be able to give a proper answer and I think that will be a brilliant arc for next season. I’m prepared for some serious Caskett goodness.

Guess what? Life is messy. Life is often spontaneous and unplanned and maybe not the beautiful movie script we like to imagine. Isn’t that what the show has been teaching us from day one? That sometimes people make rash choices and do things that seem stupid or crazy to other people, but that’s okay. It’s okay to do the wrong thing with the right intentions, and the learning curve comes in the aftermath.

And this is one aftermath I personally can’t wait to watch.

“Watershed” is a study in opposing forces. There are those who talk about how incredible this job opportunity is for Beckett and there is Castle inadvertently reminding her how incredible they are together. If there’s a single image from the show that can best represent this episode, it would be the moment when Beckett tosses out the coffee that Castle gave her the day before and it splashes violently across the divide of the sink, dashing both sides of the sink with the symbolic imagery.

This is the divide, a branching of choices that will change everyone’s lives for better or worse. (See what I did there?)

“Watershed” is perhaps the most introspective episode we’ve ever gotten. Interestingly, for an episode so heavily centered on where Castle and Beckett’s relationship is going, a large bulk of the significant progress occurs during conversations with their respective confidantes. I’m going to walk through this nearly scene for scene because this is one of those rare episodes where almost every moment is significant.

This whole analysis literally said everything I was thinking and feeling about the events of this episode. I am so glad I found someone else who is in the middle ground between all the “OMG MOST PERFECT PROPOSAL EVER” fans and the “I HATE YOU MARLOWE YOU HAVE DESTROYED THESE CHARACTERS” fans lol.

Just spent like an hour trying to write an in-depth analysis of how I viewed the events of Watershed…

And in the end I gave up because it was simply too tiring haha. Why can’t there be someone else who can eloquently put into words why the proposal was seriously really bad but also seemed totally designed that way?

Because wow you can’t tell me that Beckett being afraid and conflicted about choosing the uncertain fate of her heart over a guaranteed safe option of an incredible career life and Castle having the best of intentions with something but going about it in completely the wrong way and ending up making a complete mess of it is at all out of character for them

These two are flawed and moronic and totally getting in their own way on a fairly constant basis but they keep trying because deep down they know they found something real and even though it scares the crap out of them both they still want it

And the beauty of each of the mistakes they make is that each just inches them closer to figuring it out; every setback gives them exactly what they need to figure out how to move forward

So, when she says no—

It is the first step towards yes.
